MARATHON, NY — A 42-year-old man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly barricading himself inside a residence while armed with a shotgun early Thursday morning.
Corey D. Marquis, of Groton, was arrested at 6:08 a.m. March 5 following a standoff that lasted several hours, according to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Marathon at approximately 12:35 a.m. for a report of a disturbance involving a person with a weapon.
Officers arrived to find Marquis had unlawfully entered the property and barricaded himself inside with a shotgun, authorities said.
Deputies closed the roadway around the residence and conducted operations for several hours while attempting to make contact with Marquis.
Marquis eventually exited the residence on his own and was taken into custody without further incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
He was transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.
Marquis is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was scheduled to appear in the Centralized Arraignment Process at 8 p.m. March 5.
