Juvenile arrested after hit-and-run in Albany

ALBANY, NY — A 17-year-old male has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision in the area of Lark Street and Spring Street.

On Wednesday around 11:05 a.m., detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit observed an individual on an electric scooter strike a vehicle, causing damage in the area of Lark Street and Spring Street, before fleeing the scene.

Detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the operator of the electric scooter failed to comply.

After a short pursuit, the 17-year-old was taken into custody on the 300 block of Orange Street, during which he threw a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine to the ground.

The 17-year-old, whose name will not be released due to his age, has been charged with one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, and issued several citations in accordance with the state vehicle and traffic law.

He was arraigned in Albany County Family Court and released to the supervision of Albany County Probation Services with an electronic monitoring device.
