CORTLAND, NY — A Truxton man faces felony charges after allegedly fleeing from state police and crashing into a fence early Thursday morning.
Craig R. Allen, 48, was arrested at approximately 1:08 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class E felony due to a previous conviction within 10 years.
State police from the Homer barracks observed a vehicle speeding on Clinton Avenue and noted additional traffic violations.
Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Allen allegedly failed to stop.
He continued onto North Main Street and drove in circles around Pudgie’s Pizza before heading back toward North Main Street, according to police.
Allen then drove in circles around a parking lot on East Main Street before returning to North Main Street.
He ultimately entered a parking lot across from Cortland Guthrie Medical Center and struck a fence.
Troopers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage while interviewing Allen and asked him to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which confirmed impairment, police said.
Allen was also charged with the misdemeanors of unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree.
He was issued multiple traffic tickets.
Allen was processed at the Homer barracks and turned over to the Cortland County Jail for centralized arraignment.
