Woman arrested on DUI, child cruelty charges in Fairfax

FAIRFAX, VT — A woman was arrested following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 104 and Highbridge Road on March 1, 2026.

Vermont State Police at the St Albans Barracks responded to the crash at 4:06 p.m.

During the investigation, police determined one of the operators, Cayla Chaloux, 38, of St Albans, was under the influence.

Chaloux had two children restrained in car seats in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Chaloux was taken into custody and transported to the St Albans Barracks for processing.

She was released on a citation to appear at Franklin Superior Court Criminal Division on March 17, 2026, at 8 a.m. to answer to charges of DUI-refusal and cruelty to a child.
