WHITEHALL, PA — Police are warning residents about a sweepstakes scam after receiving several reports this week.
Scammers are contacting people claiming they have won a prize and requesting personal information or payment to claim it, according to the Whitehall Borough Police Department.
Police say key warning signs include winning a contest you never entered, requests for payments to claim a prize, high-pressure tactics to act quickly and asking for personal or banking information.
Authorities advise residents not to provide personal information, not to send money or gift cards and to verify all questionable notifications.
Anyone unsure if a prize notification is legitimate should contact the Whitehall Police Department at 412-884-1100 before responding.
