Woman arrested on welfare fraud charges in Keeseville

KEESEVILLE, NY — New York State Police arrested a Pennsylvania woman on Feb. 27, 2026, on multiple felony charges related to welfare fraud.

Dakota Wommer, 25, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, faces charges of grand larceny in the third degree and welfare fraud in the third degree, both class D felonies.

She also faces charges of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and falsifying business records in the first degree, both class E felonies.

State police received an investigative packet on April 22 from the Essex County Department of Social Services Welfare Fraud Unit regarding suspected welfare fraud.

An investigation determined that while living in Keeseville, Wommer falsified multiple Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications by failing to report employment income.

The falsified applications resulted in an overpayment of approximately $5,521.80.

Wommer was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Elizabethtown Town Court at a later date.
