Two-vehicle crash on Route 2 in Danville

DANVILLE, VT — Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 2 West near Windy Acres Road on Feb. 28, 2026.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:42 a.m. under cloudy skies with wet road conditions.

Police said both vehicles were traveling westbound on Route 2 when the second vehicle began to make a left turn into a private driveway.

The first vehicle, operated by Roberta Cookhubner, 73, of Hardwick, was traveling behind the second vehicle and was unable to stop in time.

Cookhubner attempted a passing maneuver, resulting in a sideswipe-type collision between the two vehicles.

The second vehicle was operated by Larry Stewart, 79, of Lyndon.

Cookhubner’s 2014 Subaru Crosstrek sustained moderate passenger side damage.

Stewart’s 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, which is property of the Caledonia County Sheriff’s Office, sustained moderate driver side damage.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Both operators were wearing seat belts and no injuries were reported.
