UTICA, NY — A 52-year-old man was arrested on child abuse charges after police responded to a residence on the 700 block of Lansing Street on Feb. 26, 2026.
Police were dispatched to the home at approximately 7:30 p.m. regarding a child abuse investigation.
Officers were met by several children and their mother, who reported that the children had been repeatedly punished by the mother’s boyfriend.
The mother stated that the suspect would make the children stand in a corner and not provide them with food for hours.
The children had been repeatedly beaten with an extension cord, which left visible and extensive bruising on their bodies, according to police.
The Criminal Investigations Division conducted interviews and determined that preliminary charges would be filed against Daniel Haynes, of Utica.
With assistance from the Frankfort Police Department, Haynes was located at his place of employment and taken into custody without incident.
Haynes was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with assault in the second degree (child less than 7), two counts of assault in the third degree and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
