Man arrested on drug charge in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence and arrested a man on drug charges.

The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force had been investigating the illegal possession, sales and distribution of narcotics in Cayuga County.

Investigators obtained a court-authorized search warrant for a residence in Auburn on Feb. 25.

During the search warrant execution that evening, investigators located and secured a quantity of cocaine, drug paraphernalia commonly used for packaging and distribution of illegal narcotics, digital scales and U.S. currency.

Richard R. Hartfield, 51, of Auburn, was arrested and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony.

Hartfield was transported to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings.

The Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office requested Hartfield be remanded due to four previous felony convictions.

The Finger Lakes Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the New York State Police, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and Auburn Police Department.
