AUBURN, NY — A traffic stop for a stop sign violation led to felony drug charges for an Auburn woman.
Police conducted a traffic stop at approximately 8:59 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the area of Seymour Street and State Street after observing a rented U-Haul box truck fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Seymour Street and Washington Street.
The driver was identified as Cieara M. Nickerson, 37, of Auburn.
Police determined Nickerson had a suspended license and that the rental vehicle was rented to another person who was not present.
During the investigation, police said they found Nickerson in possession of two separate quantities of cocaine with a combined weight of 29.9 grams and $4,997 in U.S. currency.
Nickerson was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, both class B felonies; aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the second degree, an unclassified misdemeanor; and failure to stop at a stop sign.
She was transported to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment proceedings on Feb. 27 at 7 a.m., where she was released on her own recognizance.
