BLOOMFIELD, NY — The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is investigating fraudulent vehicle sales conducted through online marketplaces, including Facebook Marketplace.

Investigators have identified at least one case in Bloomfield involving the sale of a vehicle that was grossly misrepresented, of little to no value, and ultimately left the buyer at a loss.

In one documented incident, a vehicle was sold with an active lien that was not disclosed at the time of sale, resulting in additional financial and legal complications for the purchaser.

The suspect is known to have used multiple aliases when conducting these transactions.

The individual at the center of this investigation has been previously arrested multiple times in other counties for similar alleged fraudulent vehicle transactions.

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who believes they have been a victim of similar fraudulent vehicle sales to contact local law enforcement.

Anyone who has experienced difficulty contacting a seller after payment, undisclosed liens on purchased vehicles, or significant misrepresentation of a vehicle’s condition is asked to contact the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 585-394-4560, or through the submit a tip feature through the OntarioSheriffNY App or the office’s website.
