BUFFALO, NY — Erie County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Buffalo man after seizing two kilograms of suspected cocaine and two illegal handguns from residences in the city.
Demetrius Austin, 43, of Buffalo, was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop on the morning of Feb. 25.
Deputies from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit, with assistance from the Buffalo Police Department Intelligence Unit and the Erie Crime Analysis Center, executed a search warrant signed by Hon. Peter Savage of Buffalo City Court.
Austin was observed leaving a residence on West Utica Street before being stopped.
At the West Utica Street residence, authorities seized suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an illegal loaded 9mm ghost gun.
At a separate residence on Tifft Street, deputies seized suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia and an illegal loaded 9mm handgun that was reported stolen from the City of Buffalo in 2022.
The drugs seized totaled two kilos in weight with an approximate street value of $200,000.
Austin was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and five counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.
He was transported to the Erie County Holding Center to be held in custody pending arraignment.
