YORKVILLE, NY — A woman was taken into custody after police say she threatened multiple people with a butcher knife while in a roadway.
The Yorkville Police Department responded to the area of Campbell Avenue and Champlin Avenue at approximately 11:08 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a menacing incident in progress.
Officers were advised that a woman, later identified as Smare Hemzh, was in the roadway armed with a large butcher knife.
Hemzh was reportedly acting in an aggressive and threatening manner toward multiple individuals and several occupied motor vehicles.
Hemzh then proceeded to a nearby residence where an altercation occurred with occupants of the home.
Yorkville Police officers arrived during the altercation and were able to safely disarm Hemzh and take her into custody.
During the course of her actions, Hemzh sustained several lacerations to her extremities.
After being taken into custody, officers rendered first aid on scene.
Hemzh was then transported by Kunkel Ambulance to Wynn Hospital for further medical treatment.
Several felony and misdemeanor charges are pending and will be filed upon Hemzh’s release from the hospital.
