VERONA, NY — A subcontractor was arrested following an investigation into unpaid work and a missing diving board.
Matthew Tanner, 44, of Cleveland, was charged with one count of grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, on Feb. 24, 2026, according to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol.
A road patrol deputy took a grand larceny complaint on Dec. 15 regarding an incident in the town of Verona.
The victim reported paying Tanner $6,000 to complete two jobs and providing him with an Olympic-style diving board valued at $500 that was to be installed at one of the jobs.
No work was completed and the diving board was never installed, according to the complaint.
The investigation was turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit.
Investigators determined the victim lost a total of $6,500.
Tanner was taken to the Oneida County Correctional Facility to await CAP Court.
He was released on his own recognizance following his arraignment.
