HARTLAND, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a 73-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 12 and Route 4.
The crash occurred at 4:36 p.m. Feb. 24, 2026.
David Fitzgerald, of Windsor, was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius south on Route 12 when he failed to yield at a stop sign and struck a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport driven by Annmarie Pintal, 56, of Amherst, New Hampshire, police said.
Pintal was traveling east on Route 4 at the time of the collision.
Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
Pintal sustained minor injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Fitzgerald was not injured.
Troopers from the Royalton Barracks responded to the scene along with the Hartland Fire Department and Woodstock EMS.
During the investigation, Fitzgerald displayed signs of impairment, police said.
He was arrested and transported to the Royalton State Police Barracks for processing.
Fitzgerald was released on citation to appear in Windsor County Criminal Court on April 21, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
