Man arrested on drug charges in Troy

TROY, NY — A Troy man faces multiple felony charges after state police say they found a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms during a traffic stop early Thursday.

Jaheim J. Garland, 24, of Troy, was stopped on High Street at about 1 a.m. for a vehicle and traffic law violation, according to state police.

Troopers observed a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms in plain view during the stop, police said.

Further investigation led to the discovery of an unlawful amount of cannabis packaged in multiple small quantities, a scale and a large amount of U.S. currency, all of which were seized, according to police.

Garland was arrested at the scene and transported to State Police Brunswick for processing.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a class A felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; criminally using drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; unlawful possession of cannabis; and a vehicle and traffic law violation.

Garland was arraigned at Schaghticoke Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
