VERNON, NJ — A man and a dog were found dead following an early morning house fire.
The Vernon Township Police Department, along with multiple fire departments and emergency medical services, responded to a second alarm structure fire at 20 Odell Road at 4:49 a.m. Friday.
Arriving emergency services found the structure fully engulfed.
Fire units quickly worked to extinguish the fire.
A 46-year-old man was found dead inside the residence.
A dog was also found dead in the residence.
The Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office, Sussex County Fire Marshal and Vernon Township Police detectives responded to the scene.
Vernon Township Animal Control also responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fire departments responding included Vernon Township, Highland Lakes, McAfee, Pochuck, Sussex, Hardyston, Franklin and Warwick.
Vernon EMS, Warwick EMS and Atlantic Ambulance also responded.
