FAIRFIELD, NJ — A woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to cash a fraudulent check at a bank.

Chynna Simon-Hess, 30, of Bayonne, was taken into custody on Feb. 19, 2026, following an incident at TD Bank.

Officers were dispatched to the bank at approximately 2:12 p.m. after employees reported that a woman had attempted to cash a fraudulent check.

Officers John Seragusa and Matthew Iatesta responded to the scene and gathered information, though the suspect had already left the bank.

Simon-Hess was located across the street at 435 Hollywood Avenue.

Bank employees told police that Simon-Hess arrived to cash a check, but the teller determined the signature did not match that of the victim on file.

The bank then contacted Fairfield police to investigate.

Simon-Hess was arrested and transported to police headquarters for processing.

She was charged with forgery, receiving stolen property and attempted theft by deception.

She was transported to the Essex County Jail pending a first appearance.
