Man surrenders on chop shop charges in Hazleton

HAZLETON, PA — A 50-year-old man wanted on felony charges related to operating a chop shop turned himself in to authorities.

Jose L. Martinez-Perez, of Hazleton, surrendered to Hazleton City Police Department on Feb. 18.

Police had been seeking Martinez-Perez since October 2025 on a warrant charging him with 19 felony counts.

The charges include two counts of owning, operating or conducting a chop shop, three counts of receiving stolen property, 13 counts of disposition of vehicle or vehicle part with altered vehicle identification number, and one count of misuse of a plate or card.

The warrant was issued Oct. 19, 2025.

Police had asked for the public’s assistance in locating Martinez-Perez before he surrendered.

The incident occurred on West Broad Street in Hazleton.
