Man arrested on reckless endangerment charge in New Berlin

NEW BERLIN, NY — A 21-year-old man was arrested Feb. 14, 2026, after allegedly speeding past a deputy and crashing into a snow embankment.

Bruce M. Townsend, of New Berlin, was charged with reckless endangerment in the second degree, reckless driving and several traffic infractions, according to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy on patrol observed a vehicle pass at a high rate of speed and driving recklessly before the crash occurred in the town of New Berlin, authorities said.

Townsend was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in New Berlin Town Court at a later date.
