KEENE VALLEY, NY — New York State Forest Rangers discovered a deceased hiker near the summit of Mount Marcy on Feb. 12, 2026.
Rangers were notified at approximately 3 p.m. of a hiker and her dog in distress on the mountain and began an extensive search.
At approximately 9 p.m., Forest Rangers located Brianna L. Mohr, 21, of Brick, New Jersey, along with her dog.
Mohr was showing no signs of life and was pronounced deceased near the summit.
The dog was uninjured and rescued.
New York State Police and the Essex County Coroner’s Office were notified of the incident.
An autopsy was conducted Feb. 14, 2026, at Glens Falls Hospital by forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Sikirica.
The cause of death was determined to be hypothermia.
