COHOES, NY — A 19-year-old man was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in state prison for his role in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 93-year-old pedestrian.
Kemaury Everett, of Albany, was sentenced Monday in Albany County Court for the death of Charles Allendorph on Aug. 18.
Members of the Cohoes Police Department were dispatched to the area of Newark Street and Congress Street at approximately 9:44 a.m. that day for a vehicle versus pedestrian accident.
It was reported the striking vehicle had fled the scene.
Upon arrival, officers located an elderly male with visible injuries laying in the roadway.
Allendorph was transported to Albany Medical Center and later succumbed to his injuries.
With details gathered from witness statements, officers quickly identified the suspect vehicle and relayed pertinent information to surrounding law enforcement agencies.
Within one hour, Albany Police Department located the unoccupied suspect vehicle, at which point it was seized by Cohoes Police as evidence.
At approximately 4 p.m., the suspect was located in Albany after he attempted to report his vehicle stolen.
Everett was charged with manslaughter in the second degree, assault in the second degree and leaving the scene of an incident without reporting.
A grand jury returned the three-count indictment, according to Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon.
Everett was arraigned at 9 a.m. in Cohoes City Court by Judge Galarneau and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility without bail.
