Man arrested for theft of E-bike in Franklin Borough

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ — A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of an E-bike from a commercial parking lot along Route 23 North.

Ernest Sprague, 34, of Franklin Borough, was charged on the evening of Jan. 27, 2026, by Franklin Borough Patrol Officers Dylan Testa and Alex Lospinuso.

The complaint stemmed from an incident on Jan. 21 when an E-bike was reported stolen from the parking lot.

Patrol officers obtained surveillance videos from multiple nearby businesses and ultimately identified Sprague as the suspect.

During the investigation, the stolen bike was located in the entryway of a common area associated with the suspect.

The bike had been spray-painted and altered in an apparent attempt to avoid detection.

Sprague was taken into custody, and the stolen property was returned to the victim.

Sprague was charged with theft, a third-degree crime, and criminal mischief, a fourth-degree crime.

He was issued a complaint summons and released pending his appearance in Sussex County Superior Court in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform Act.
