Deputy’s patrol vehicle collides with car in Trenton

TRENTON, NY — A marked Oneida County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle collided with a car on Route 12 near Route 28 on Feb. 15, 2026.

The accident occurred at 8:20 p.m. when Deputy Zachary Held, 23, was entering the roadway from a lot on the west side of Route 12 to conduct a traffic stop of a northbound vehicle.

Held’s 2025 Ford Explorer collided with a 2015 Honda Civic operated by Mariah Depan, 20, of New York Mills, which had been traveling southbound.

Depan was transported to Wynn Hospital for complaints of pain.

Her passenger, Jace Diehl, 22, of New York Mills, and Deputy Held were each evaluated at the scene by EMS and released.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to damage.

The accident is under investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the New York State Police, Barneveld Fire Department and Northstar Ambulance.
