Road rage shooting investigated in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, MA — Police have requested criminal charges against a suspect following a shooting that stemmed from a road rage incident.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of McKinstry Avenue and Grattan Street at approximately 12:42 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2026 for a report of a shooting.

Police determined the incident was a result of road rage and not a random act of violence.

Officers obtained a license plate number of the suspect vehicle using a city camera in the area of the shooting.

A be on the lookout was issued and Holyoke police located the vehicle at the address of the registered owner.

Based on the operator description provided by the victim, a male party inside the residence was detained for questioning.

During questioning, it was determined he had two warrants for his arrest, and Holyoke police took him into custody on the warrants.

During a search of the residence, detectives located a loaded Glock handgun, ammunition and a “Glock switch,” a small device that is attached to the rear of a Glock pistol to turn a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic firearm.

The suspect has not been arrested on any firearms charges and his name has not been released.

A criminal complaint has been requested through the Chicopee District Court for assault with a dangerous weapon, firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, assault to murder with a firearm involved, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of a machine gun, possession of a loaded machine gun, possession of ammunition without an FID card, malicious damage to a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property over $1,200.
