Woman arrested on retail theft charge in Wilkes-Barre Township

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested a woman at Target on Wednesday after loss prevention reported a shoplifting in progress.

Kaylee Elizabeth Appleton was observed with merchandise in her bag and proceeded past all points of sale where she was stopped by loss prevention at 5:36 p.m.

Appleton initially did not comply with loss prevention but complied once police made their presence known.

After Appleton was detained, she provided police with a false name and date of birth belonging to her sister.

A search of her bag while recovering the stolen merchandise found a small baggie containing a substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine.

Upon being placed in handcuffs, Appleton admitted to her true identity and was found to have an active arrest warrant for retail theft from Columbia County.

Appleton was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility and charged with retail theft, providing false identification to law enforcement and drug possession.
