Officer-involved shooting under investigation in Lower Burrell

LOWER BURRELL, PA — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Rodgers Drive on Feb. 14, 2026.

The Lower Burrell Police Department was dispatched to Rodgers Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. for a report of an individual firing shots into a nearby residence.

Officers responded and attempted to approach the suspect’s residence in a tactical manner.

Upon their arrival, the individual exited the home and began yelling at officers, making statements including “just shoot me.”

Westmoreland SWAT was requested and responded to the scene.

An arrest and search warrant were obtained for the suspect and residence.

SWAT personnel established a perimeter and barricaded the residence.

Trained negotiators attempted to establish communication with the individual; however, the individual refused to engage with negotiators.

SWAT personnel then deployed additional measures in an effort to have the individual exit the residence safely.

During these efforts, the individual fired multiple rounds through a window at SWAT operators.

SWAT personnel returned fire, striking the individual.

The individual was subsequently taken into custody and transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh for medical treatment.

The individual’s condition is unknown at this time.

No officers were reported injured during the incident.
