LIMA, NY — A 20-year-old man was arrested on a felony charge after allegedly sending sexually explicit messages to a 14-year-old child in California.
Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports that Aiden Kelly, of Lima, was arrested on Feb. 12 and charged with felony Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors in the First Degree, a Class D Felony.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in November by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in California regarding concerning messages sent by an adult male to a child in their jurisdiction.
Through the investigation, it was determined that Kelly had sent inappropriate and sexually explicit messages to the 14-year-old victim after they met online through a game, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Kelly had formed a relationship with the child that lasted for over a month, and thousands of messages between Kelly and the victim were recovered, authorities said.
Kelly was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Avon Justice Hoffman.
The judge released Kelly on his own recognizance as the crime does not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Kelly at the arraignment.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared to represent the People.
Assisting with the investigation were members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division and Forensic Identification Unit, as well as members from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
