Illegal firearm, ammunition and cocaine seized in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit seized an illegal firearm, ammunition and cocaine Thursday while arresting a 38-year-old man.

Michael Flores, of Springfield, was taken into custody at approximately 2:20 p.m. Feb. 12 following an investigation by the Firearms Investigation Unit under the direction of Lieutenant Jaime Bruno.

FIU Detectives had been investigating Flores for possession of illegal firearms and on Feb. 11 applied for and were granted a search warrant for his home on the 200 block of Canon Circle.

Prior to executing the warrant, detectives conducting surveillance located Flores driving and conducted a traffic stop on the 1700 block of Boston Road.

Detectives were aware that Flores had a suspended driver’s license and he was placed under arrest.

Members of the Springfield Police Emergency Services Unit under the direction of Sergeant David Robillard and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department then executed the search warrant on Canon Circle.

During the search, detectives recovered a loaded firearm, approximately 97 rounds of various ammunition and a bag of cocaine inside his car.

Flores is charged with possession of a firearm without a license – subsequent offense, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a Class B drug and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
