Man arrested on DUI charge in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a man on a DUI charge after his vehicle went off the roadway early Thursday morning.

At approximately 12:58 a.m., troopers were called to 532 Paran Road where a vehicle had left the roadway.

The operator, Henry Altman, 23, of Brooklyn, New York, reported he had gone off the road to avoid a deer.

Troopers arriving on scene suspected Altman was impaired.

Altman was administered Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises, during which he showed signs of impairment.

He provided a preliminary breath test that resulted in a blood alcohol content over three times the legal limit of .08%.

Altman was placed into custody and transported to the Shaftsbury Barracks for further testing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, to answer to the charge of DUI.
