Wanted man apprehended in Reading

READING, PA — A man wanted on felony charges was apprehended by a U.S. Marshals Service task force Feb. 11.

Roberto Ortiz Jr., 28, of Reading, was taken into custody in the 1000 block of Birch Street.

Ortiz Jr. was wanted on felony charges of strangulation and simple assault filed by the Reading Police Department.

Members of the Berks County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force, along with other task force members, made the arrest.

He was transported to the Berks County Central Booking Center for processing and arraignment.

District Judge Kyley Scott set bail at $5,000 unsecured.

Ortiz Jr. was subsequently released.
