Man arrested on child exploitation charge in Liberty

LIBERTY, NY — New York State Police arrested a man on charges related to child sexual exploitation.

Matthew Jones, 31, of Liberty, was arrested Feb. 6, 2026, and charged with possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, a class E felony.

The arrest resulted from a proactive investigation that began in November 2025.

The investigation revealed Jones was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children.

A search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence in Liberty in February 2026.

The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Troop F Child Abuse Unit, State Police Liberty Barracks, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Liberty and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Jones was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Liberty Court on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
