PEN ARGYL, PA — A man faces multiple drug charges after police say he failed to stop for a traffic violation and was found with marijuana and pills in his vehicle.

Jariel Badillo, 33, of Allentown, was arrested Feb. 9 during a traffic stop in Allentown by Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem.

Police said the charges stem from an incident on Nov. 6 at approximately 3:44 a.m. when an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop for an equipment violation in the 800 block of West Pennsylvania Avenue.

The driver failed to yield and continued driving until reaching his workplace, police said.

Upon making contact with the driver, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana and observed marijuana in plain view, according to police.

The driver was identified as Badillo, who was found to have a suspended driver’s license, police said.

The officer observed signs of impairment and Badillo was asked to submit to field sobriety exercises where additional signs of impairment were observed, police said.

Badillo was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and was also found to have an active warrant out of the Allentown Police Department, according to police.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located marijuana and alprazolam pills in amounts consistent with drug sales along with a large amount of cash that was found on Badillo’s person, police said.

A warrant was later obtained for his arrest, police said.

Badillo is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, DUI for alcohol and controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and various traffic offenses.
