SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, MI — A semi-truck driver was arrested following a fatal crash at the intersection of M-60 and Spring Arbor Road on Monday afternoon.
Deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Spring Arbor Township Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 12:41 p.m. following reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial semi-truck.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a silver Subaru Outback was traveling westbound and approaching the traffic signal when it was struck from behind by a semi-truck.
The driver of the Subaru, a 72-year-old man from Ohio, was transported to Henry Ford Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
A 71-year-old female passenger in the Subaru was also transported to Henry Ford Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The 36-year-old male driver of the semi-truck reported no injuries at the scene.
The semi-truck driver was arrested and lodged at the Jackson County Jail on a charge of moving violation causing death.
Evidence gathered at the scene suggests that speed was a contributing factor in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
