Man arrested on assault charge in Sennett

SENNETT, NY — A 48-year-old man has been arrested on an assault charge following a domestic violence investigation that began last month.

Christopher J. Coleman, of Sennett, was arrested Feb. 3 and charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, according to Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck.

Deputies initiated an investigation on Jan. 14 at approximately 11:30 a.m. into an alleged domestic violence incident that had occurred days prior.

A female victim was hospitalized due to injuries from the incident.

The investigation resulted in multiple people being interviewed over the course of many days.

Upon completion of the investigation, it was discovered that Coleman had pushed a female victim, causing her to fall and sustain injuries that required hospitalization.

Coleman turned himself in at the Public Safety Building at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 3, where he was arrested.

He was turned over to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment part, where he was released on his own recognizance.

Coleman is scheduled to appear in the Town of Sennett Court on Feb. 11, 2026.
