BOSTON, MA — A Lynn man was arrested on multiple firearm charges early Tuesday morning following a traffic stop in Dorchester.

Officers assigned to District B-3 arrested Nelson Baptista, 37, of Lynn, on firearm and drug-related offenses.

At approximately 12:55 a.m., officers patrolling the area of Harvard Street and Washington Street observed a motor vehicle with excessive window tint.

Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop at the intersection of Bowdoin Street and Oakley Street.

While speaking with the operator, officers observed that the front passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was pinning his left arm to his body.

Officers also observed the rear folding compartment was down and exposing the trunk.

After further investigation, officers issued an exit order to both occupants.

As the driver was exiting the vehicle, he pinned his leg up against the door and began reaching towards it.

Officers observed what appeared to be the end of a firearm magazine and quickly removed the suspect from the vehicle.

Officers recovered a lighter that had the appearance of a Glock handgun.

Police continued to search the vehicle and recovered a firearm from inside.

The firearm was determined to be a Bryco 38 with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

While searching the suspect, officers also recovered a small vial of cocaine.

Baptista is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card and possession of a Class B drug.
