BOSTON, MA — A Dorchester man faces multiple theft charges following his arrest outside the Boston Public Library on Feb. 6.
Michael Coty, 61, of Dorchester, was arrested by officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) after allegedly stealing merchandise from multiple stores.
Officers responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods at 760 Boylston Street at approximately 5:52 p.m. for a report of a larceny in progress.
A description of the suspect and his direction of travel was broadcast to responding units.
Officers located Coty standing in front of the Boston Public Library at the intersection of Dartmouth Street and Boylston Street.
He was taken into custody without incident.
Officers recovered $383 worth of stolen merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods, which was returned to the store.
During a search incident to arrest, officers recovered additional stolen merchandise belonging to Vineyard Vines and a kiosk inside the Prudential Mall.
The additional items were valued at $158 and were returned to the respective businesses.
Coty is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of shoplifting by asportation, third offense, and common and notorious thief.
