Man arrested on drug charges in Rockland

ROCKLAND, NY — A traffic stop on State Route 17 led to the arrest of a man on felony drug charges Feb. 5, 2026.

Members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit observed a 2025 Jeep traveling westbound on State Route 17 at approximately 8:37 p.m. committing multiple violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver and sole occupant, identified as Kevin A. Alvarez, 39, of Woodridge.

K-9 Kell conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics.

A subsequent search of Alvarez’s person revealed approximately 103 grams of cocaine and approximately $2,093 in U.S. currency.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and yielded no additional contraband.

Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to State Police Liberty for processing without incident.

Alvarez was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, narcotics, a Class B felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd degree, intent to sell, a Class B felony; and multiple uniform traffic tickets.

Alvarez was arraigned in the Town of Fallsburg Court and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear at the Rockland Town Court on Feb. 17, 2026, at 9 a.m.
