ROCKLAND, ME — Rockland Police arrested a transient man while investigating suspected drug trafficking at a local hotel on Feb. 5, 2026.
Daniel Barnes, 38, was taken into custody after officers seized approximately 10 grams of cocaine, including crack cocaine, according to the Rockland Police Department.
Barnes was out on bail for an unrelated pending felony drug charge and on probation for a domestic violence criminal threatening conviction at the time of his arrest.
He was charged with drug possession and faces expected charges of felony drug possession and violation of conditions of release.
The arrest was made by Rockland’s Proactive Crime Interdiction Officer, a new position approved this year to focus on addressing burglary or theft sprees, narcotic use and sales, high-volume traffic infractions, and disorderly properties or neighborhoods through community-oriented and modern law enforcement techniques.
Barnes was released to a facility for medical care but has since absconded from that care, police said.
Rockland Police are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement.
