CAPE ELIZABETH, ME — Police are warning residents about a scam involving emails from people impersonating municipal officers and departments.

Residents in Cape Elizabeth and surrounding towns have reported receiving the fraudulent emails, according to the Cape Elizabeth Police Department.

The town will never ask residents to send funds via wire transfer, police said.

The scam emails request wire transfers, urgent updates to payment methods or warn of financial penalties for not taking immediate action.

Police are advising residents not to respond to the emails or click on any links within them.

Official emails from the Town of Cape Elizabeth end with @capeelizabeth.gov, police said.
