WHITEHALL, NY — A 37-year-old man has been arrested on multiple felony charges following a disturbance investigation that uncovered illegal firearms possession and a prior sexual assault.
Sean R. Therrien, of Whitehall, was taken into custody by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office after deputies responded to a reported disturbance on Saunders Street in the Village of Whitehall, according to Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy.
During the investigation, deputies discovered Therrien was illegally possessing a handgun and shotgun he was not legally authorized to have.
The investigation also revealed that Therrien had sexual relations with a female against her will during a prior domestic incident.
Therrien has been charged with rape in the first degree, a class B felony; criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony; strangulation in the second degree, a class D felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony; unlawful imprisonment in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor; and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Therrien was arraigned at centralized arraignment and held in lieu of bail.
