Man arrested after fleeing traffic stop in Edmeston

EDMESTON, NY — A Utica man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing from deputies during a traffic stop Jan. 31, 2026.

Leon G. Marriott, 43, of Utica, was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office following the incident.

Deputies on patrol observed Marriott operating a vehicle with a suspended registration on a public roadway.

When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, Marriott allegedly fled for a short distance before being taken into custody.

Deputies said they found methamphetamine in Marriott’s possession.

Marriott was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, operating a motor vehicle while registration suspended, reckless driving, operating without insurance, unlicensed operator, speed in zone, drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a lawful order.

He was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and released with an appearance ticket.

Marriott is scheduled to appear in Town of Edmeston Court at a later date.
