Woman shot in McKees Rocks

MCKEES ROCKS, PA — Allegheny County Police are investigating a shooting that left a woman in critical but stable condition and the suspected shooter dead following a vehicle crash.

County 9-1-1 was notified at 11:07 a.m. Sunday of a female shot in the 100 block of Jane Street.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit was requested and detectives initiated an investigation.

Detectives determined the shooting occurred in the evening hours of Feb. 7 but was not reported until the next morning.

Through their investigation, detectives identified a suspect as Edward Sparrow, 22.

At 8:17 p.m. on Feb. 7, County 9-1-1 was notified of a single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of Langer Way in Kennedy Township.

When local police arrived on scene, the vehicle was unoccupied.

While investigating the shooting, detectives determined Sparrow was driving the vehicle that crashed on Feb. 7, and a witness report indicated Sparrow jumped over the guardrail on Langer Way following the crash.

Monday morning, detectives conducted a search of the steep hillside near the guardrail and located a deceased adult male matching Sparrow’s description.

Detectives are currently working with area fire departments to conduct a recovery operation.

Formal identification of the deceased male will be made by the medical examiner’s office.
