YORK, ME — Police are warning residents about fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The York Police Department said the scam texts falsely inform recipients about tickets, fines, registration issues or suspensions.
The BMV does not send text messages about such matters, police said.
Recipients are urged not to click any links in the messages.
Police advised anyone who receives the text to delete it immediately.
Anyone who clicked a link in the message should contact the York Police Department.
