Man arrested on attempted murder charge in Kingston

KINGSTON, NY — A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder following a shooting in traffic earlier this month.

Knowledge Montgomery was arrested Feb. 6 and charged with the felonies of attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and attempted assault in the first degree.

Montgomery approached a vehicle stopped at a red light near Flatbush Avenue and Tietjen Street on Feb. 4 at approximately 4 p.m. and fired multiple rounds into the driver, according to Kingston police.

Montgomery fled the area in another vehicle immediately after the shooting.

The victim, a 30-year-old male, was transported to and treated at a local hospital.

His injuries are serious but not fatal.

Police said the victim was the target of the shooting.

During the investigation, information was developed as to Montgomery’s location, and he was found at the Ramada Inn on Route 300 in Newburgh.

He was arraigned Saturday at Ulster County Centralized Arraignment Part court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail on $100,000 cash bail, $200,000 secured bond or $500,000 unsecured bond.

Kingston police were assisted in the investigation by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Ulster Police Department, the New York State Police, the Town of Newburgh Police Department and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
