CALEDONIA, NY — A 35-year-old man faces felony charges after allegedly sending sexual messages to someone he believed was a 13-year-old girl.
Nathan Greenleaf, of Caledonia, was arrested Feb. 3 by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
The investigation began in December when the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Decoys Making a Difference, an organization that reported concerning messages from a resident in the Village of Caledonia.
Investigators determined Greenleaf had sent inappropriate and sexual messages to someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl, according to Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty.
Greenleaf also requested numerous times to meet with the individual to engage in sexual acts, authorities said.
Investigators also discovered Greenleaf was in possession of an unregistered pistol during this time.
Sheriff’s Investigator Shawn Whitford arrested Greenleaf on charges of felony disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree and felony criminal possession of a firearm.
Greenleaf was transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
He was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part before Town of Groveland Justice Bean.
The judge released Greenleaf on his own recognizance as the crimes do not qualify for bail under the New York State Bail Reform Act.
The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office represented Greenleaf at the arraignment.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office appeared to represent the People.
