Missing man investigation continues in Hampden

HAMPDEN, ME — Maine State Police have assumed the lead role in the investigation of a missing 78-year-old man who was last seen in mid-January.

Douglas Dunphy of Hampden has not been located as of Thursday, according to a statement from Maine State Police.

The Hampden Police Department began investigating Dunphy’s disappearance on Jan. 15 and requested assistance from Maine State Police on Jan. 16.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North was assigned to assist due to the facts and circumstances of the case, according to the statement.

Over the following weeks, the Hampden Police Department, Bangor Police Department, Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North worked in partnership to locate Dunphy.

The Hampden Police Department agreed to allow Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North to take the lead on the investigation moving forward, though Hampden police will remain a key partner in ongoing investigative efforts.
