WEST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, PA — Police arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found in a snow-covered field following reports of wrong-way driving.
Mackenzie O. Kombo, of Willow Street, was taken into custody at 2:50 p.m. Sunday.
West Lampeter Township police were dispatched to the area of Willow Street Pike and West Willow Road for a report of a reckless driver in a black Volvo who was possibly driving under the influence.
Officers received updated information that the driver was traveling the wrong way on Willow Street Pike South.
Police located the vehicle off the road in a snow-covered field on Willow Street Pike South between Kendig Road and West Willow Road.
Kombo was identified as the driver and was attempting to free the car from the snow-covered field.
Police said Kombo exhibited several indicators that he was under the influence of alcohol and had an open and partially consumed can of alcohol inside the car.
Kombo was arrested and transported to the West Lampeter Township Police Department.
He refused to provide a chemical test of breath.
Kombo was booked at the police station and released into the care of family members.
He is facing charges of DUI and restriction on alcoholic beverage, along with summary traffic violations for driving the wrong way on a one-way roadway and a traffic lane violation.
The charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Benner.
