HARRISON TOWNSHIP, PA — Police are investigating reports of multiple vehicles sustaining tire damage from metal fragments on roadways.

Reports began coming in the evening of Feb. 3, 2026, according to the Harrison Township Police Department.

Police believe vehicles may be picking up the metal fragments on Pennsylvania Route 28, Pennsylvania Route 908 or Freeport Road near Walmart.

Officers have checked numerous areas throughout the township but have not been able to locate where exactly on the roadway the metal fragments are being picked up by motorists.

Police said they do not have any reason to believe the metal fragments have been placed on a roadway with criminal intent at this time.

The incidents are not believed to be related to caltrops reported by Tarentum Police a couple of months ago.

Harrison Township Police are working with PennDOT to have the state roadways broomed or cleaned up to reduce the risk of additional damage to tires.
