DORCHESTER, MA — A Quincy man was arrested early Wednesday morning following a reported break-in at an apartment building on Adams Street.

George Williams, 37, of Quincy, was taken into custody at approximately 4:30 a.m. after officers responded to a call for a breaking and entering in progress at 1220 Adams Street.

Officers observed a male in the lobby of the apartment building who matched the suspect description provided by dispatch.

The individual was identified as Williams and detained while officers conducted an investigation.

Three residents of the targeted apartment told police they were awakened by someone inside their home turning off circuit breakers that controlled the apartment’s lighting.

The residents said they exited their bedrooms and observed an unknown male wearing a black puffer jacket inside the apartment moving items around.

They told officers they did not know the individual.

The residents said they recognized the suspect from an encounter the previous day, during which he allegedly placed black tape over their apartment door peephole.

When confronted at that time, the individual reportedly said he was at the wrong address.

The residents told officers that black tape had once again been placed over their peephole and was discovered when they exited the apartment to speak with responding officers.

Williams was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of breaking and entering at night and trespassing.
